FILM

2008

I have long been fascinated by “old movies”—early talkies especially in the 1930s—and what they suggest about cultural expectations (as Hollywood viewed them, and hence as many moviegoers presumably came to see their culture).  I usually watch these on Turner Classic Movies, so I’m not getting the benefit of the full screen image--but I can pause the films with my DVR.  Often as I watch, I think about how old each of my parents was when the film came out, and I try to empathize with what they might have felt as they watched.

I also recently received as a birthday present a one-year subscription to Netflix, and I plan to list often obscure films that I enjoy.
